Galanthus nivalis 'Checkendon Double'

A particularly neat and dainty double form of Galanthus nivalis, ‘Checkendon Double’ is distinguished by its short, compact habit and unusually narrow ovaries. The small, refined flowers have a much more delicate appearance than the familiar, often rather untidy Galanthus nivalis ‘Flore Pleno’, making this an appealing selection for the discerning snowdrop collector. Found by Paul Barney of Edulis growing in a garden at Checkendon, South Oxfordshire, it is a locally discovered selection with a pleasing sense of place. A later-flowering form, it helps extend the snowdrop season into February. Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil, in partial shade or beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, where it will gradually establish into flowering clumps. ● Hardiness: H5 ● Height: 12–14 cm ● Spread: Clump-forming ● Flowering: February
