Working predominantly in oils, Maddy creates textured paintings using palette knives. Her work is shaped by a fascination with the slower rhythms and everyday pleasures of European life. Her recent café scenes takes inspiration from the Italian expression il dolce far niente translating to “the sweetness of doing nothing” - capturing unhurried moments of conversation, coffee and food. This particular painting depicts a scene in Barcelona - a city Maddy often visits as her sister lives there. Through her paintings, Maddy hopes to celebrate the beauty found in ordinary moments and create work for those who appreciate a slower pace of life.
