Cyanotype Photography Workshop — 2-Part Series In this 2-part workshop series (3 hours each), participants will learn the full cyanotype process from digital image to finished print — starting with editing your own photos into negatives and ending with beautiful hand-printed blueprints on paper. Part 1: Creating Your Negatives (3 hours) We'll begin by downloading and learning to use GIMP, a free photo editing software available for PC and Mac. You'll learn how to edit your own digital images and convert them into high-contrast negatives ready for cyanotype printing. Between sessions, Wildling will print your negatives so they're ready to use in Part 2. Part 2: Cyanotype Printing (3 hours) Using the negatives prepared from Part 1, you'll dive into the historic cyanotype process. You'll learn how to coat paper with light-sensitive emulsion, expose your images using UV light, and develop your finished prints using cyanotype chemistry. We'll also explore how different exposure times affect your results, giving you the knowledge to keep experimenting at home. Expect to leave with your finished cyanotype prints! Registration: Both parts must be registered for together as a series. What to Bring for Part 1: Your own PC or Mac laptop with enough storage space to install GIMP. They should be fully charged! 1–2 high-resolution digital images (JPG or HEIC preferred; iPhone/Android photos work great) Images must be high contrast and high quality for best printing results No experience necessary! All printing materials included for Part 2. We will be working with light-sensitive chemicals in Part 2, and students will learn proper safety procedures for handling and mixing solutions. No experience necessary! We provide everything! We'll be using light-sensitive chemicals and will show you how to handle and mix them safely. Expect to leave the workshop with your pieces at the end of the workshop. No experience necessary!! ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED! Cancelation Policy: If you need to cancel due to any reason, Wildling needs two full weeks before the class start date for you to receive a credit towards another class.
