Vintage Mens 1940s Harris Tweed Double Breasted Chesterfield Overcoat Ginger Brown Wool DB 36"
A beautiful & super-stylish vintage 1940s Chesterfield type overcoat, made from herringbone weave Harris Tweed fabric in the gingery brown mixture properly referred to as Crotal. Cut in the classic double-breasted style with sharp peaked lapels, 4 x 2 butterscotch horn effect button fastening with 3 decorative buttons to the cuffs, medium padded shoulders, very fitted waist, 1 breast & 2 flapped lower pockets, & long rear kick vent. Fully lined with taupe rayon twill fabric, with an inside breast pocket; no maker's label present. Please study the photographs carefully - they form an important part of the description. NB Accessories not included - shown with an "Old Fashioned Garments" polo neck which is also available on the website. Size: Suggested Small Regular, to fit about a 36" chest depending on whether a suit jacket is worn beneath. Photographed on a 38" mannequin. All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent): Chest - armpit to armpit: 22" (56cm) Shoulder to shoulder: 19" (48cm) Shoulder to cuff: 24" (61cm) Armpit to cuff: 17" (43cm) Waist: 20 1/2" (52cm) Back length - base of collar to hem: 43 1/2" (110.5cm) Condition: In very good to excellent condition overall, appears seldom worn - there is a barely-visible tiny repair to the left lapel & 2 more to the lower right side (arrowed) - a few small nibbles to the surface nap which the camera couldn't see - scattered marks, small holes & scuffs to the lining, mostly across the shoulder area & at the front hem corners. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing but a slightly musty storage smell remains. I have a no returns policy - please check the above measurements and compare to a similar garment of your own before buying - no refund offered for items that don’t fit.
