Learn how to paint with gold! This technique for giving life to your vitreous enamel might feel familiar: you may have seen something similar in the metallic accents that decorate porcelain. Metal is finely powdered and then suspended in a binder that the artist can use as paint. When fired, the oils burn away and leave a high polished gold sheen. At the end of class you will have completed with at least one pair of earrings and pendant pendant. We will cover: Surface preparation Mixing oils for enamel Oil burning out process Kiln firing liquid enamel Details: Sunday, August 23 from 2:00-6:00 Class is held in the Silver Peak Jewelry Arts located at 100 E. Cleveland St Lafayette 80026 7 contact hours, ages 14+ # students: 3 minimum, 6 maximum Materials kit fee is $75 and includes metal, enamels, and gold-filled findings for 1 pair of earrings and 2 pendants. Chains for pendants are sold for an additional charge Each student will work at their own dedicated jeweler's bench. (No need to buy tools!) Instructor: Denali (Dee) Moore (They/Them) Denali graduated with their BFA in Metals & Jewelry from the University of Wyoming in 2020 and now works as a goldsmith and bench jeweler at a fine jewelry store in Fort Collins. They hope to spread some of the knowledge they have acquired with the rest of their community to make metalsmithing techniques more accessible to artists of all backgrounds.
