Pierre Jeanneret Six-Compartment Low Bookcase, PGIMER, Chandigarh, c. 1960

Designed by Pierre Jeanneret for the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, this low bookcase retains its original institutional stencil, PGIMER/M.LAB/64/II, intact after more than sixty years of institutional use. Constructed entirely in solid teak, the piece features six open compartments arranged across the full width of the case: four uniform central bays flanked by one wider compartment at each end. The side panels extend to the floor to form the legs, while a low plinth base spans the full width of the piece. The teak has developed a warm, dense patina consistent with its age and origin. Offered as found. Lightly cleaned and unrestored.
