French Platinum & 18ct Gold Pearl & Diamond Drop Earrings | 1.5ctw OEC | c.1910
A pair of French platinum and 18ct gold drop earrings from 1910 with sumptuous pearl drops and a little secret on the reverse... The quality here is immediately apparent: three sizes of perfectly round Old European cut diamonds (5.25mm, 3.5mm, and 2.5mm) totalling 1.5 carats between the two earrings, set in fully hallmarked platinum and 18ct yellow gold. Two (likely natural) fine pearls are seated at the bottom of these beautiful earrings in their original settings with beautiful bar backs. But the discovery that so delighted us was the platinum chain connecting the body to the bottom drop — an ingenious original mechanism designed to prevent over-articulation of the lower element. From a rare pre deco post art nouveau moment in French jewelry history, this kind of craftspersonship is the standard couture jewelry from this moment.
