The area experiences tropical climate of high altitude varies between 1,700-1,950m above sea level. It is one of Rwanda regions which have high rainfall with an annual average temperature varying from 16°C to 21°C. Annual rain falls ranging from 1,100 to 1,500 mm, thus these features are favourable to coffee development. In the past, farmers in Muhororo Sector were mainly doing subsistence agriculture with the production of food crops. But later, they found that coffee is one of the top cash crops compared to other crops. In 2003 the farmers had an idea of creating a cooperative for coffee growers. They initially started as group of farmers of 28 members (6 men and 22 women). With the vision of extending their coffee plantations and increasing their revenue, they requested land from the District authorities with the purpose of coffee development. Their request was approved and they were given free land of about 30 Ha where each farmer is now responsible for his or her individually allocated plot.
