Monotype Deskmats

Following the success of the Substance series, Nuxros returns with Monotype—another design that challenges the standard rectangular deskmat mold. Featuring a striking, asymmetric silhouette, the Monotype is slightly narrower than a traditional full-sized mat, making it an attention grabbing part of any setup. Beyond its unorthodox shape, the Monotype features a textured surface designed for precision. This "rough" finish provides tactile resistance for tighter mouse control during gaming and naturally masks dust and wear between cleans. This is a short, unlimited group buy that only runs for a week, ending on April 25. After that, it'll switch to a limited pre-order at a higher price that will run until the quantities run out or the deskmats arrive. All deskmats are estimated to finish production mid-May, 2026. Delivery time to you depends on the import method of your choice. Why I designed this deskmat I’ve always liked having a large deskmat on my desk because it makes both working and gaming feel more comfortable. However, after using the common 90x40cm deskmat size for a while, I started to notice a few issues. When a deskmat is that large, most of the items on your desk like your phone, pens, or other personal items usually end up sitting directly on top of it. Over time, this makes the deskmat get dirty much faster, and it also becomes harder to clean the desk, since you have to move so many things around. Because of that, I started thinking about designing a deskmat that is still large enough to be comfortable, but doesn’t take up the entire desk. This way, personal items can stay directly on the desk surface, while the deskmat area is mainly used for the keyboard and mouse, making it much easier to keep the desk clean. Designed for both work and gaming Besides working, I also spend a lot of time playing games, so mouse space is very important to me. In FPS games like CSGO, PUBG or Delta Force, you usually need a wider area to move the mouse freely. Because of that, I extended the mouse area upward, giving more room for larger movements and making it feel less restricted compared to typical deskmat layouts. For the keyboard area, I also considered how many gamers actually place their keyboards. Everyone has their own preferred position, so I expanded the lower section, allowing users to position their keyboard in whatever way feels most comfortable for them. A more balanced layout Another thing I noticed is that most people don’t place their keyboard in the center of the desk. Instead, it’s usually shifted to one side to make more room for the mouse. That’s why I intentionally divided the deskmat layout into two visual sections. The idea is to keep the overall setup balanced and visually pleasing, even when the keyboard is placed off-center. Choosing the right surface For the Mono deskmat, I decided not to use the smooth surface like the one on the Substance Deskmat. Instead, I went with a rough surface. There are two main reasons for this: Better mouse control A rough surface offers a good balance between speed and control, which works especially well for gaming. Less prone to visible dirt Compared to smooth surfaces, rough textures tend to hide dirt better and stay looking cleaner during daily use. To be honest, I often eat, drink, and even smoke at my desk, so regular desk mats get dirty pretty quickly. Using a rough surface simply makes the deskmat more practical for everyday use. In the end This deskmat was designed based on my own daily experience using desk mats. The goal was to create something that: Keeps the desk comfortable for both work and gaming Makes the desk easier to clean Works well with how gamers actually place their keyboard and mouse Uses a surface that performs better in real-world use And that’s the reason why I decided to create this deskmat.
