Dwarf Cobalt Gourami

Temp 22 to 28c The Dwarf Gourami is known for its peaceful and timid nature, often seen swimming alongside its pair. As a type of labyrinth fish, it relies on a lung-like labyrinth organ to breathe air from the water's surface. Despite their common name, "dwarf," they grow to a maximum length of two inches. Males, slightly larger than females, display a predominantly blue color with minimal red on the body, featuring pointed dorsal fins. In contrast, females maintain a duller silvery blue-gray hue and lack the vibrant colors of the males. Dwarf Gouramis are known for their blue-dominant appearance with hints of red on the body, representing a color hybrid of the Assorted Dwarf Gourami. This hybrid features bright orange-red bodies with turquoise blue vertical stripes extending into the fins. Another variation is the Flame Dwarf Gourami, characterized by almost solid red bodies and solid blue dorsal fins. Typically peaceful, these gouramis can coexist with other non-aggressive species, preferably those not too large or brightly colored. Tankmates may include peaceful, small schooling fish and most bottom-dwelling species, such as dwarf cichlids and small tetras. Gouramis can be skittish in noisy environments, so it's recommended to keep them in a quiet location with ample vegetation, including floating plants covering part of the water's surface. They thrive in a neutral pH range, with water hardness between 4 to 10 dGH and an ideal temperature of around 25°C. In their natural habitat, gouramis feed on small insects, larvae, and algae. In aquariums, they readily consume flake food, freeze-dried options, frozen foods, and vegetable tablets. A balanced diet includes periodic feedings of live foods like worms, particularly for breeding pairs. Males, larger and more vibrantly colored than females, develop elongated dorsal and anal fins as they mature. In contrast, females have shorter, rounded fins.
