Antique Victorian French Style Wooden Fireplace Surround

Decorative late Victorian fire surround in the Rococo Revival style. The reclaimed antique piece has richly modelled ornament throughout. The shaped frieze is centred with a shell motif, framed by flowing scrollwork and delicate floral detailing, while the cabriole-form jambs are adorned with applied foliate drops and scrolling relief decoration. The surround has a distinctly French influence, echoing Louis XV revival designs popular in the late 19th century. Its serpentine opening and fluid ornamentation give it a refined yet playful character, ideal for both period interiors and more eclectic decorative schemes.
