Hanabi Lager, Spring 2026 Lyon Pilsner 500ml
Hanabi (pronounced haNAbi) is a lager brewing project, born from a winemaking life and a passion for building things with their hands. These ‘grain-forward lagers’, are the brainchild of a husband-and-wife team, Nick Gislason and Jennifer Angelosante. They’ve been in the wine industry for decades; Nick is currently the head winemaker at Screaming Eagle and Jennifer, most recently, a viticulturist for Silverado Farming Company and a wine journalist. They’ve both been brewing beer since before they were legal. This beer is brewed with Lyon barley, a variety developed by renowned artisan grain breeder Kevin Murphy of the WSU Bread Lab and named in honor of his mentor and colleague, Steven R. Lyon. We sourced a beautiful crop from Bill Myers’ family farm overlooking the Palouse River in Washington State. Brewed as a Pilsner-style lager, Lyon presents a cheerful straw-yellow hue with luminous white foam. Aromas of wildflowers, Meyer lemon, and sweet alfalfa are fragrant and expressive. An inviting, open palate leads into a refreshing, long finish marked by flinty minerality. This variety reflects a new set of priorities: exceptional flavor, elevated beta glucan content (a heart-healthy soluble fiber), and suitability for organic farming practices. Lyon Pilsner pours a luminous straw-yellow with a soft, white foam. Aromas of willdflowers, Meyer lemon, and sweet alfalfa rise from the glass. The palate is open and inviting, leading to a crisp, refreshing finish with a subtle flinty minerality.
