Antique Edwardian ring Burma no heat ruby diamonds gold platinum (7691)

Antique Edwardian ring. No heat Burmese ruby, diamonds, gold, platinum. Made circa 1900 - 1910. United Kingdom or European. Gemological certification and independent appraisal. Measurements: Weight is 3.7 grams. US size 8 3/4. Ruby is 1.51ct; diamonds .29ct Description : Exquisite gently oval / off round shape. The star of this ring is the magnificent ruby in the center. The ruby is clear, catches the light beautifully, playing with shades that range from pinkish to deep reds. Glistens, gleams and bright. The oval ruby is surrounded by concentric rings of diamonds. The outer ring is recessed - lower than the ruby and inner ring of diamonds. Diamonds are pave set in silver, which was the standard and norm at the time since silver showed diamonds off better in candle or gas light. The rest of the ring is in yellow gold. The top of the ring rests on an openwork gallery with an unusual >-shaped design, narrowing at the centers and widening towards the shoulders. Shoulders are composed of a pair of diverging leaves that join at a round collet-set diamond. The ring is beautifully designed and made. Workmanship is very fine and designed to show off that incredible ruby to best effect. A truly stunning item. Marks and Metal: No marks found. Metal was electronically tested. THE STORY: Rubies are often considered the kings of gems. Burmese rubies are the most valuable and desirable rubies. Even better, this ruby has a certificate to prove that it was not heated (unlike most other rubies). It is a true gem-collector's item. We do not know exactly who owned this ring over the past generations. We must assume that they were both wealthy and connoisseurs - certainly people who appreciated the exceptional qualities both aesthetically and geologically of this beautiful antique jewel.
