The collars are made from ethically sourced leather in Kenya. The collars are then hand beaded by Maasai women artisans from my Village in Kajiado who have mastered the art. The hardware is made from 100% recycled brass. STEPS OF MAKING OUR COLLARS SOURCING MATERIAL: We buy the leather used to make the collar from a factory that ethically sources leather which is a by-product of the meat industry. The brass D-rings and buckles are hand-cast by talented artisans in Kajiado. SIZING: I size up the leather in my workshop in Nairobi. I start by cutting out the width(0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5) in inches then I do the length sizing. STITCHING: I stitch up the leather to make a boundary that will guide the beaders and make the collars look nicer. BEADING: I take the leather pieces to my village in Kiserian where they are distributed to different beaders. We have a code for all collars so once they are ordered we tell the beaders the code and size to make. FINISHING: Once the beaders are done the collars are sent back to the workshop in Nairobi where the lining, fitting and final sizing are done. SHIPPING: We do shipping via DHL and USPS for the USA. The timelines vary but we do our best to ensure we shipping within the shortest time possible. NB: We stock a lot of collars to ensure fast shipping and also make sure our beaders are always working as they depend on the job for their livelihoods. TO MEASURE CORRECTLY Our Measurements are from the tip of the Buckle of the Collar to the second hole after the beaded section.
