GONIOLIMON tataricum
Goniolimon tataricum is a compact, long-lived herbaceous perennial valued for its airy, cloud-like sprays of tiny star-shaped flowers. Commonly known as German statice or Tatarian sea lavender, it produces branching flower stems above low rosettes of leathery green foliage. The delicate blooms, often white to pale pink or lavender, create a soft, architectural effect in borders, rock gardens, and dry sunny landscapes, while also providing excellent texture for fresh and dried floral arrangements. Goniolimon tataricum thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy, gravelly, or loamy soils. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and performs especially well in hot, dry sites, xeriscapes, and low-maintenance gardens. This perennial dislikes wet or poorly drained winter soils, so good drainage is essential for long-term success. It is deer-resistant and attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Flower stems can be cut just as the blooms begin to open for drying, or left on the plant for lasting ornamental interest. Goniolimon tataricum pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, sedum, lavender, echinacea, and other sun-loving perennials for a naturalistic, drought-tolerant display. Sun Requirements: Full Sun. Prefers full sun for best flowering and strongest growth. Maximum Growth Height: 12–18 inches (30–45 cm), with a spread of about 12–18 inches (30–45 cm). Bloom Month: July to August. Blooms in midsummer, with airy flower sprays that remain attractive and are excellent for drying.
