A Wide Rustically Woven Obi: Arrow Feather Motif
mid twentieth century 120" x 11", 309 cm x 28 cm This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from weft material that is thickly spun. The obi is wider than most of its type and there is a faint crease running down the middle of it. This shows where the obi was folded during its time as a kimono sash. The background is a creamy white tone and woven into it are horizontally-oriented chevron shapes--in this case they represent stylized arrow feathers, a traditional Japanese design motif. Pay attention to the detail photos which show some slight discoloration to the cream tone. Not at all distracting overall and probably the result of age, however do make sure to take this into account if you are considering acquiring this very good quality old obi. Handsome.
