This budget specimen lot includes 3 smaller refractory gold ore quartz crystal samples that did not make the cut for individual premium listings but still display interesting geological features and quartz crystal growth formed during ancient hydrothermal explosion events. These specimens formed when explosive hydrothermal activity fractured and brecciated the host rock, creating small cavities and fracture networks that were later filled by silica-rich fluids, allowing quartz crystals to grow throughout the rock. The samples contain sulfide-rich refractory gold mineralisation with minute silver values and antimony-bearing minerals. Some free gold is present within the ore, however it occurs in micron-sized particles typically only visible under magnification or a microscope. Most of the gold remains locked within sulfide minerals, making the ore refractory and unsuitable for simple gravity recovery methods.
