Paul H. Young - Perfectionist 7'6" 2/2, 4-5wt Bamboo Rod
For sale here is a Paul H. Young Perfectionist, 7'6" 2/3 5wt bamboo rod in very good used condition. Made in 1962 for the celebrated author Tom McGuane whose name is inked on the butt. Medium flamed cane with oxidized snake guides and carbide stripper. Windings are Holland 319 although the ferrules have been reset and wrapped in what looks like Gudebrod 541. The guide wraps appear original, and they received an overcoat at some point. The sections are full length and serialized. The butt and 2 original tips are #4066 while the 3rd tip bears #4184, another Perfectionist produced a few years later. The ferrules fit nicely and all 3 tips have faint fish fighting sets. Bent loop hook keeper and all-cork grip & reel seat with dual slide bands. The butt reads "Thomas F. McGuane III - Perfectionist 7 1/2ft 2.75oz - a Paul H Young Co rod". All script is in Jack Young's hand, although the serial on tip #4184 looks like Summers. Overall weight is 2.95oz. Semi-parabolic action on the medium side of medium fast. Ideal with a DT5, a fantastic example of the Perfectionist taper. The rod really comes alive at 30'+. Sold in a replacement bag with provision for the 3rd tip and what appears to be the original Champion tube.
