Vintage Turned Chip Carved Wood Butter Print Eagle Design Knob-Shaped Handel

Description: A beautiful vintage turned and chip carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print has the very desirable design of an American eagle with wings to its side and fanned tail. The eagle is in the center with branches having leaves on each side. The entire design is withing two concentric circles with a toothed border. The design shows a shield on the eagle's chest, open beak, and details in the wing and the tail. The print has a round flat surface with nice carved design of the eagle. The print has a knob-shaped handle. See page 156 in Paul Kindig book "Butter Prints and Molds" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd of West Chester, PA in 1986 Figure V-296 for a similar example. We believe this butter print is a vintage facsimile of the print shown in the Kindig book, which resides in the Henry Ford Museum. A nice piece to add to your collection. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice vintage butter print with a well-executed design. A nice butter print, which would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: The piece is in good condition. It has no appreciable wear or losses. The back of the print has some age cracks emanating from the center towards the edge. However, these cracks are on the surface and do not go through to the design. Other than that, the design is very well executed and shows nice details. The entire piece has a rather dark appearance suggesting it is made of a dark hard wood and has been finished with some agent. The piece has some minor scratches and dings to the surface.
