Sweet Pea ‘Heirloom Mix’

Botanical Name: Lathyrus odoratus Lifecycle: Annual ‘Heirloom Mix’ is an elegant and colourful blend of old fashioned Sweet Peas that bring an exquisite fragrance to any garden. The sweet-scented blossoms have a beautiful sweet fragrance, and produce a mix of colours including lavender, pink, purple, red, salmon and white. Easy to grow from seed and perfect for beginners, they will thrive in a variety of climates. Sweet Peas are a prized cut flower, and love to be cut and groomed for increased flower production. This variety typically grows to 1.5m to 1.8m tall producing long strong stems, and are perfect for climbing fences, trellises, screens and stakes. Excellent for attracting pollinators to your vegetable garden. Please note that Sweet Pea seeds are poisonous if ingested, these plants are for enjoying as a flower only. SOWING: Spring - Early Autumn Direct, or Transplant Sweet Pea seeds are best sown in spring to early autumn. Seeds can be sown in trays for transplanting, or directly in place approx. 5 – 10 cm apart when soil temperatures are between 18°c – 25°c. 18°c - 25°c 10 - 14 days Transplant seedlings, or thin directly sown seeds to a final spacing of approx. 10cm apart once plants have some true leaves. 10cm 80 - 110 days Half-Hardy TIPS: Thrives in bright, sunny growing areas, but as with all Sweet Peas the plants do best in regions with cool summer temperatures and do not do well in hot, humid summers. Use mulch to keep the soil cool and provide good air circulation for best growth. Sweet Peas are ready to cut for a bouquet when the lowest flowers on the stem are just beginning to blossom. Germination is sped up by softening the seeds outer coating prior to planting, by soaking the seeds in water for a few hours or overnight, or using your fingernail to scratch the outer coating. Sweet peas are hungry feeders so will benefit from their garden beds being topped up with liquid fertiliser a few times over the flowering season. APPROX SEEDS PER PACKET: HOME GARDEN 20 seeds
