Pontos Fluorite Ring

The word blue appears in Middle English around the 13th century. Before the sea was commonly described as blue, pontos was the Homeric word for the open sea: vast water, distance, passage, and return. Its colour belongs to another language of perception — green, dark, wine-deep, shifting with light, depth, and danger. At the centre of the Pontos Ring, natural fluorite holds this unstable colour world: green, violet, and purple tones moving through a single stone. Its wide, sculptural form becomes a fragment of that ancient sea language. Excavated from Homeric language and the buried memory of the Aegean, the Pontos Ring returns as an object of depth, and perception. Handmade in 925 sterling silver, plated with 18kt gold, and set with natural fluorite.
