Dokra Brass Statue of a Woman on a Charpoy
A dokra statue of a woman sitting on a charpoy reading a book. This is a delightful image of a woman sitting on a tradition charpoy bed reading a book - a very contemporary motif implying that education for women is slowly improving. She is sitting tall with a straight back, her hair coiled on top of her head. Dokra is one of the ancient metal casting crafts of India that dates back over 4000 years. A rough clay shape is covered in wax that is finely carved to create the final shape of the statue. This is then covered in clay with a drain duct for the wax to excape in the next stage when molten brass is poured into the mould. Dimensions: H11 W11 D6cm
