This heart pendant began as a fragment of woolly mammoth tusk bark — the outermost layer of a tusk that spent tens of thousands of years buried in the frozen ground of Alaska before my brother John and the Reeves family at The Boneyard Alaska recovered it. That time underground left its mark: the deep, warm tones and the blue vivianite stains you see are the result of natural mineralization from the surrounding biomass, and no two pieces ever look the same. The shape is classic, but the material is anything but — fossil ivory from an animal that walked the earth during the last Ice Age, dating 12,000–40,000 years old. Size 1-1/4" No modern animals are harmed in the making of these pieces. Every bit of material comes from extinct Ice Age animals, sourced responsibly by The Boneyard Alaska from private fossil sites. This is a one-of-a-kind piece — once it's gone, it's gone.
