Vintage Japanese Wide Ema shrine festival plaques

Vintage Japanese Shrine plaques called Ema, these are unusually wide ones specifically made to celebrate festivals. The first one is the Aoi Matsuri, the hollyhock festival. This plaque came from Kamigamo Jinja a shrine in the north of Kyoto. The image depicts the festival's Heian-style court procession which happens on the 15th of May and is one of Kyoto's 3 great festivals. The Second plaque depicts the Gion Matsuri, the Gion Festival in Kyotos Historical quarter. This plaque came from Yasaka Jinja, a famous shrine in Gion popular with visitors to Kyoto and the shrine the Gion Matsuri is associated with. The image depicts the Yamaboko Junkō the procession of huge festival floats. Each plaque measures 25cm wide x 10cm - sold separately We found these in Kyoto on our recent trip.
