The entire flare of the skirt is bordered with a wide black base panel, hand-embroidered in vivid multicolor thread a procession of caparisoned elephants, strutting peacocks, pigeons in flight, and prancing horses, each motif drawn from the spirit of Channapatna's painted wooden toys. The same embroidered border wraps all the way around the dupatta, so every drape tells the full story.
