If you have completed our Watercolour One course, you're ready for the next exciting step...... Dates: 6 – 27 October 2026 Times: Tuesdays, 6.00pm – 8:30pm Venue: NatureArt Lab, Workspace A, M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, ACT About the course: This course continues the exploration of painting with watercolour looking at harmony in colour and combination of techniques. Students will learn how to stretch paper and will complete a series of exercises and projects based on themes from nature. We will look at monochromatic, complementary and analogous colour schemes and will gain practice combining wet and dry techniques with transparent glazing. Watercolour Two is a recommended/prerequisite for the follow-on Watercolour Three and Four. Learning outcomes: - An enhanced ability to identify and mix colour and an understanding of how different hues affect each other. - Skills in stretching paper - Further skills in transparent glazing and applying washes on wet and dry - An understanding of highlights, surface and cast shadow Prerequisites/level: Suitable for 16+ ages, beginners who have completed Watercolour ONE and those wanting to revise their practice. About the tutor: Esther Shelley is an established artist who was based on the North Coast and recently moved back to Canberra. When it comes to expressing her ideas, she enjoys working with various mediums, including: watercolour, vitreous enamel in fine jewellery, handcrafted ceramics and painting water based oil and acrylics paints. She has exhibited on the Gold Coast and in Sydney and enjoys the process of creating bodies of work with inspirational meaning and content that draws others into a world of colour, texture and transparency reflected through her work. Having painted for over 30 years, Esther Shelley brings an extesive knowledge to the course participants which she is delighted to share and has the ability to make one feel at ease when tackling a new medium like watercolour, dispelling unfounded myths about watercolour and bringing together the magic of colour, water, paper and design with good reasons to satisfy most of the questions thrown her way. She loves seeing the beautiful expressions of those in the class and delights in the progress that is inevitable as one spends time painting with watercolour When asked what she finds the most satisfying about teaching the basics in watercolour techniques, Esther said "I love seeing the reactions of delight and satisfaction as students begin to enjoy the potential for creative expression they can achieve through this extremely versatile medium".
