'Weisze Freyheit' 2023
Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc, Burgenland, Austria A textural, mineral and precise, zero-zero Austrian white blend. Gernot and Heike Heinrich’s 100+ hectares in the municipality of Gols, Burgenland are farmed certified biodynamically since 2006, and stocked with sheep, ducks, hens, and beehives! Their lineup is teasingly diverse, with a through line of finesse and spirit achieved through minimal intervention in the cellar. ‘Weisze Freyheit’ is a blend of mineral, acid-wielding chard and aromatic, nutty pinot blanc. Half was left just overnight on skins emphasizing freshness, while the other half spent an additional two weeks on skins to extract tactility, before being fermented and matured between amphoras and large barrels. Citrus blossoms, herb roasted almonds, peach jam on brioche, mineral touchstones, layers of lemon, lime, green apple & the softest hint of caramelization, like kissing someone who just ate a Werther's Original. Pour alongside cod, fries and golden hours.
