Wednesday, October 7 , 2026 and Wednesday, October 14 , 2026 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM Length: 14″, Width: 11″, Height: 6″ Prerequisites: Students should be proficient at twills. It is an over 3/under 2 twill. While the twilling is not real complicated, twilling at the same time one is shaping the basket makes it more difficult. Students should have done a few cathead style bases and have a good understanding of them. This basket is woven in gorgeous colors of russet, tangerine, scarlet and wine in 3 mm flat oval. The base is a solid 3/3 twill. A decorative strip of gold colored wire and beads add sparkle using ti twining method. The last few rows may create a challenge as we weave in the opposite direction to create the arrow. The rim and rim filler are dyed and the basket is lashed with waxed linen. The instructor will supply small bobbins pre-loaded with the wire and a needle to sew the rim. Slow weavers may need to finish after class but should understand how it is done. Standing is generally required for the cathead. Students may also choose to make a smaller basket by reducing the number of spokes in increments of 5. Materials supplied: 1/4” & 3/8” flat reed, 4 & 7 ply waxed linen, 3mm flat oval dyed 4 colors, 3/8” FO dyed, #6 round reed dyed, seagrass, wire, needle, glass beads & 2 small bobbins (students keep bobbins & needle) Tools needed: Two spokes weights are a must. Usual tools including, spray bottle, water container, towel, regular & small clips, angle cutters, scisssors, electrical ties, cutting board & scarfing tool, packing tools, measuring tape, .small needle nose pliers, and any other tool you like to use.
