Kalachakra Mandala, Orange and Gold

The Kalachakra tantra teaches that the cycles of the body mirror the cycles of the cosmos — that the breath and the movement of the planets run on the same clock. The mandala is the map of that correspondence, and the practitioner is meant to enter it. Tashi Gurung lives in Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the former Kingdom of Lo, on Nepal's border with Tibet. He has painted thangkas in the classical Tibetan Buddhist tradition since the 1990s.
