Filamentive Algae Based PLA Natural 1.75mm - Sustainable 3D Printing Filament
Algae-based PLA filament for sustainable 3D printing Filamentive PLA Algae is a sustainable 3D printing filament, formulated by blending premium PLA with 5-10% algae bio-filler. This vegetable seaweed originates from the Scandinavian countries and it is invasive because when it dies it turns into coral, impacting marine enviornments. It is harvested then processed in France to create a bio-filler for use in applications such as 3D printing filament. As a natural, renewable resource, algae not only reduces dependency on virgin plastic but also offers enhanced environmental credentials due to its high CO₂ absorption capacity and non-competition with food resources. This unique filament retains the easy printability of standard PLA – low warp, strong adhesion, and great dimensional accuracy – while offering added ecological value. The algae bio-filler can also improve material performance, delivering parts with potentially increased strength and reduced brittleness. Finished prints feature a distinct deep green, earthy tone, with subtle organic texture – ideal for display models, sustainable product prototypes, or eco-conscious branding applications. By using PLA Algae, you’re supporting the circular economy through bio-based materials and responsible sourcing – reducing waste, emissions, and impact on non-renewable resources. Bio-filled PLA with 5-10% algae Vegetable seaweed origin Earthy, deep green finish Easy to print – like standard PLA Ideal for sustainable design and prototyping Additional Information Weight 1.4 kg Colour/Diameter Natural, 1.75mm, Sage, 1.75mm Sustainability Product Overview Material name: PLA (Polylactic Acid) Origin: Bioplastic typically derived from renewable, plant-based sources such as corn starch Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities) Environmental Credentials Recycled content: 50% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations) Recycled Material: Post-industrial recycled (PIR) material recovered from controlled manufacturing waste streams Carbon footprint: Supplier data indicates a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to virgin PLA, due to recycled content use and localised production. Full life cycle assessment (LCA) in development. Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool; spool-less refill also available. Check local guidelines. Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers. Circularity & End-of-Life Biodegradability: PLA is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions (typically requires sustained temperatures of ≥55°C and specific microbial conditions). It is not home-compostable, and availability of industrial composting varies by region – please check locally. Recycling: Fully compatible with Filamentive's PLA recycling scheme. Alternatively PLA can be mechanically recycled to produce recycled filament or upcycled into other products by the end-user. Disposal/reuse guidance: PLA is not typically accepted in household plastic recycling. Please check local facilities or use Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme if eligible. Certifications & Standards ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.
