2001 Gibson Custom Shop Authentic 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Flametop! Factory Grovers, Killer Top! 58 R8 Historic
2001 Gibson Custom Shop Authentic 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Flametop! Factory Grovers, Killer Top! 58 R8 Historic! Here is a really nice Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Custom Authentic from the highly regarded “Good Wood era”, and a relatively rare factory Grover tuner example that adds an interesting variation to an already desirable Historic model. This one features a very attractive figured maple top that easily sits in R9-quality territory, giving it strong visual presence and that classic late-’50s Burst character collectors look for. The overall look is warm, vintage-correct, and very authentic in its presentation. Condition is very good overall, showing honest, normal playwear consistent with use rather than neglect. There is minor buckle rash on the back, none of which breaks through the finish, along with a few small indentations on the top. The neck shows several dings, most notably one just past the 3rd fret, and the frets exhibit light wear, though there is still plenty of life remaining and no impact on playability. Overall, it remains a solid, well-preserved example of a desirable Good Wood-era Custom Authentic. It appears to be 100% original, and it comes complete with the original hardshell case. Also included is an original Guitar Center sales receipt from the time of purchase (or shortly thereafter), adding a nice piece of provenance to the instrument’s history. Playability is excellent, with a big, full “’50s style” neck profile that feels substantial and authoritative in the hand. The guitar plays easily up and down the fretboard and delivers the classic feel these early Historic Les Pauls are known for. Tonally, it sounds exactly like a strong Good Wood-era Custom Authentic should—rich sustain, strong midrange focus, excellent clarity, and a warm, open Les Paul voice when plugged in. At 9.2 lbs, it has a solid, resonant feel with great sustain and balance.
