Shiro Utsuri is one of the classic Utsurimono varieties, defined by the dramatic combination of black Sumi and white Shiroji. With only two colours involved, the relationship between the Sumi, the white ground and the overall body shape becomes particularly important to the appearance of the koi. EK7135 displays substantial areas of bold Sumi running from the head through the body, broken by areas of lighter Shiroji to create a strong monochrome appearance. But perhaps the first thing to notice is simply the size. At an impressive 42cm while still Tosai, this is already a substantial young koi from Ogata. Young Shiro Utsuri can also be fascinating koi to follow because their Sumi may continue to develop and change as the fish matures.
