MAHUA MATTERS: ISSUE #01

Mahua Matters Issue #1 is the first publication from this ongoing exploration of the many lives of the Mahua tree. Created collaboratively by Wild Harvest India and Edible Issues, the project brings together research, storytelling, flavour labs, public events and community conversations to build a more accessible archive around Mahua—its histories, ecologies, cultures, foodways and contemporary possibilities. This first issue is designed as a beginner’s exploration of Mahua. Rather than telling a single story about the tree, it brings together eight different stories, moving between the historical and the contemporary, the ecological and the culinary, the everyday and the imagined. At the heart of the book is a Mahua flavour wheel, developed through our flavour explorations, which offers a way to notice, describe and talk about the many flavours and aromas of Mahua.
