With a new spring installation, turn the regulator down approximately one full turn before airing up the marker. Check velocity, then adjust it upward slowly to protect the solenoid. Start with the spring alone. For most markers, the spring works properly without a shim and provides smooth, consistent velocity. Only add a shim if you cannot reach the desired velocity with the spring alone. Add one shim at a time and retest velocity after each change. Only add the second shim if the desired velocity still cannot be reached after testing with one shim.
