Opal Brooch

A delicately textured silver bezel with six prongs hold a matte, subtly textured enameled disk. Using the sgraffito process, the bottom three-quarters of black enamel has been scratched away in a pattern of vertical lines to reveal the pink beneath. The edge of the brooch is encompassed by a row of faceted opal beads in various shades of pale pink and lavender. The back of the brooch, which is also carefully considered, is covered in a repeating pattern of inverted arches and lines and then finished with a silver pin mechanism and steel pin stem. Handmade by Tanya Crane. Brooch has a diameter of approximately 55 mm, and weighs approximately 20 grams. Handle carefully as enamel is glass.
