It was produced for Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management, one of the most widely distributed domestic reference works in the English-speaking world. First published in 1861 and revised through numerous editions, the book's illustrated food plates became some of the most recognizable images in Victorian and Edwardian domestic culture. About the artist Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management was compiled by Isabella Beeton and published by S.O. Beeton in London. The illustrated plates across its various editions were produced by commercial artists and engravers working within the Victorian publishing tradition.
