5x7in St.Kateri Tekakwitha Icon

An original icon of St.Kateri from our July Prayer Card Club! St.Kateri [known as the "Lily of the Mohawks"] was born in Auriesville, NY in 1656 to a mother who was a Christian Algonquin and a father who was the chief of the Mohawk clan. Her parents and brother passed away when she was only four years old after contracting smallpox; a disease that left Kateri disfigured and half blind as well. She was then adopted by an uncle who openly opposed Christianity and the French Jesuit missionaries staying in their colony. These same missionaries planted the seed for Kateri’s conversion. She was inspired after hearing them speak and slowly began exploring her faith by meditating and encountering God in nature on her long walks. She would often make little crosses out of wood (like the one she is holding in this icon) and place them in the woods. 5x7in, 23K gold
