Originating in Mexico, the Holiday has roots in ancient Aztec culture where it was believed the dead preferred we honored them with lively festivities instead of reserved sadness. One of the most iconic symbols of Día de los Muertos are colorful calaveras often rendered as decorated sugar skulls in traditional ofrendas (offerings or alters) honoring the dead. $2 from the sale of each pin goes to El Pueblo Park Association a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument, the historic heart of Los Angeles, and promotes exhibits, events and education at the site.
