Japanese Antique Shinto Shrine

An exceptional antique Japanese Shinto shrine known as "Yamako," representing a traditional Japanese house altar. Hand-carved from hinoki cypress wood, the shrine features an elaborate curved copper roof with decorative ridge finials, supported by carved wooden brackets adorned with mythical creatures including baku and dragons. A central staircase leads up to the shrine's inner chamber, flanked by carved balustrades and finished with fine metal fittings throughout. Dating from the Edo or Meiji period, this is a richly detailed and historically significant example of traditional Japanese religious craftsmanship.
