A hand laid carbon formula wheel with 123 inputs and a 5 inch touchscreen Most carbon sim wheels are a carbon skin over a metal frame. This one is not. Rexing hand lay the Mayaris 2 as a full carbon fibre epoxy composite, every layer oriented for stiffness, then vacuum bag and autoclave cure it. There is no internal metal reinforcement because the carbon chassis does not need any. That is why a 290mm wheel with a 5 inch touchscreen, 17 RGB LEDs, three OLED screens and 123 inputs still comes in at 1.15kg. Our sim racing wheels range covers the alternatives. The result is a chassis that is stiff in the directions that matter under load and light everywhere else. Rexing build each one by hand in Croatia, and they are open about what that means: a hand laid carbon or polyurethane surface can carry minor cosmetic variation, and that is normal in a handmade product rather than a fault. The trade is a wheel that is genuinely lighter and stiffer than a moulded one. What 123 inputs actually means Ten RGB illuminated push buttons, their brightness and colour set in SimHub. Three central switches with RGB backlight: two eight position switches and an encoder with a push function, each labelled live on its own OLED screen so you always know what it is currently mapped to. Two multi switches that work simultaneously as a rotary encoder, a digital joystick and a button. Six thumb rotary encoders, two upper Alps units with a softer click and four Elma units with a firmer, more defined one, the middle left and right also pushing. Self adhesive labels are supplied for the lot. The paddles, and the clutch The shifters are magnetic with hall sensors and no switches inside, so there is nothing to wear out and nothing to develop a double tap. Rubber stops cut the click noise, which matters more than it sounds on a long stint with a headset on. The clutch paddles are analogue: hall sensor filtered with linear output, a digitally adjustable bite point and two modes, fixed main and secondary or auto priority. Six bite point presets save on the wheel itself, so a standing start in one car and another is a switch rather than a recalibration. Screen, LEDs and SimHub The 5 inch touchscreen runs at 854 x 480 with RGB LEDs surrounding it, all fully customisable. Eleven of those are RPM LEDs and six are marshal LEDs, and every one can be driven from telemetry data with adjustable brightness and colour. SimHub support is native, which is what configures the buttons, the screen layouts and the LED behaviour. Firmware updates are a drag and drop onto a drive the wheel exposes, with no utility to install. Advanced features including quick shift, brake magic and throttle hold need firmware 1.041 or later. Mounting it The aluminium hub on the back accepts both 50.8mm and 70mm patterns directly, so there is no adapter plate to buy for the common wheelbases and quick releases. Rexing name Simucube, the Fanatec Podium Hub and Asetek among them. On a threaded Simucube quick release you need M5 x 10mm bolts and an 8mm wrench. Power and connection A non proprietary connector on the back takes the supplied high quality USB spiral cable straight to the PC, so the wheel is USB bus powered and there is no separate power supply to find a socket for. Rexing recommend a powered USB hub for maximum brightness across the screen and LEDs, and note it is the fix if a wheel ever shuts down. It is a recommendation rather than a requirement: the wheel works without one. Keep the USB run to around two metres.
