Viamed VM-2500-S Sidestream Capnograph with ISA CO2 Analyser, Veterinary, Pre-owned The VM-2500-S is Viamed's handheld sidestream capnograph, part number 4410540 in the veterinary configuration, drawing a gas sample through a NomoLine style sampling line to an ISA CO2 analyser inside the unit. It displays end tidal and inspired carbon dioxide, saturation, respiration rate and pulse rate, with a capnogram and a plethysmogram, and it works on intubated and non-intubated patients alike. That last point is the whole reason to choose sidestream in a veterinary practice. A mainstream analyser sits in a breathing circuit, so it can only monitor a patient who is intubated and connected. A sidestream line samples from wherever it is placed: at the airway adapter on a circuit, through a Luer connector, or taped near the nares of an animal breathing on its own. That covers the periods when capnography is usually abandoned and when respiratory depression is most likely, namely mask induction, sedation, and the recovery kennel after the tube comes out. Sidestream's old weakness was the sample line, and this design is built around removing it. The sampling lines use a gas selective water removal tubing rather than a conventional trap, so condensation and secretions are dealt with in the line itself and there is no water trap to empty and no pump drawing moisture into the analyser. The lines carry an integrated bacteria filter with low dead space, and come in a short term form rated to 24 hours and a long term form rated to 72 hours. Sample flow is 50 ml per minute across all applications, which is low enough not to steal meaningful volume from a small patient. The ISA analyser measures 0 to 15 vol per cent carbon dioxide to an accuracy of plus or minus 0.2 vol per cent plus 2 per cent of the reading, across a respiration rate range of 0 to 150 breaths per minute, with a rise time of 200 ms or less and a warm up under ten seconds. Accuracy is specified to EN ISO 21647 and EN 864. The unit records a trend point every eight seconds and transfers data to a computer over USB. Points to note before ordering No power supply and no AA cells are supplied with this unit. The VM-2500-S runs from four AA cells or from its rechargeable pack, and the pack is charged through the mains supply. Without either, the unit will not switch on. Elarix Medical reads the required supply rating from the unit and states it in writing before dispatch, confirms whether the rechargeable pack is present and holding charge, and quotes a matching United Kingdom supply and a set of cells alongside. Veterinary device. This is the veterinary configuration and is intended for animals. It is not supplied for use on people. Sampling lines are the running cost. They are single patient consumables, rated to 24 hours in the short term form and 72 hours in the long term form, and they are ordered as ongoing stock rather than once with the monitor. Elarix Medical confirms in writing which lines, if any, come with this unit and quotes further stock. Saturation sensor type. The unit takes either a lingual sensor or a multi-site Y sensor, and the Y clips come in three sizes, 0025010 small, 0025011 medium and 0025012 large. Elarix Medical confirms which sensor and which clip size are present. Pre-owned condition and commissioning. Marks to the case consistent with practice use. To be electrically safety tested and function checked, with the carbon dioxide reading verified against a calibration test gas and the sampling line path checked for flow, before clinical use. Elarix Medical photographs the actual unit on request.
