Twin Sparrows in the Snow Japanese Flower Vase

This flower vase was hand-painted by Kutani ware master Nakamura Toshito, who is known for his charming sparrow motifs, subtle and nuanced color palette, and exceptional ability to create balanced compositions. A pair of adorable sparrows perched on a twig serves as the centerpiece of this design, huddling together for warmth as delicate snowflakes drift around them. With their feathers fluffed up, the sparrows evoke fukura suzume, an auspicious motif associated with prosperity and good fortune. The vase’s egg-shaped silhouette is well suited to displaying branches, long-stemmed flowers, or small to medium-sized floral arrangements. Beyond floral displays, it also serves as an elegant decorative accent on a shelf, mantel, or tabletop.
