ETHIOPIA KELA ANAEROBIC WASHED

LIME | WHITE FLOWERS | BLACK TEA | HONEY | From the Sidamo region in Ethiopia, specifically from the village of Taferi Kela, comes this coffee produced through a collaboration with Bette Buna, an organization deeply rooted in the territory and committed to the development of a more sustainable supply chain and the growth of local communities. The name Bette Buna literally means “House of Coffee” and perfectly captures the company's bond with this community. The story began when grandfather Syoum and grandmother Emame entrusted Dawit and Hester not only with the management of their farm, but above all with the responsibility of contributing to the growth and future of the Taferi Kela village. Although it shares the same mountain range as some of the most well-known production areas in Sidamo, Taferi Kela has long remained a little-explored area. Even today, coffee represents one of the few structured economic activities present in the region, making every development project particularly significant for the community. In Ethiopia, coffee is a fundamental component of the national economy. However, many of the operators working along the supply chain are still unable to earn enough income to adequately support their families. Bette Buna was created precisely with the goal of helping to change this situation by working directly with the community's producers. The organization offers training on soil management, agroforestry, and selective harvesting, explaining to farmers the importance of picking only ripe cherries. A perfectly ripe cherry weighs more and offers higher quality potential: for this reason, producers receive a better price based on weight and can also benefit from a quality-linked premium.
