Beal's double lanyard, now adjustable: one strand that sets anywhere from 40 to 100 cm, and a sewn Dyneema loop in place of the second strand Beal Expresso Fit adjustable lanyard: two attachment points, the bulk of a single lanyard The Expresso Fit is the adjustable version of the Expresso, Beal's double lanyard. The idea is simple. Instead of two rope strands, it pairs an adjustable strand — 9.5 mm dynamic polyamide rope — with a sewn Dyneema loop. The Beal manual calls that loop the short anchor point. You keep what a double lanyard gives you, with the bulk of a single one on your harness. Beal presents the design as a patented system, without publishing a number for it. The short anchor point is what makes setting up a rappel easier. It's a second attachment point, separate from the adjustable strand: you stay clipped in at the anchor on the adjustable strand while the short anchor point takes your rappel device. One less step, and nothing to untangle. The adjuster changes the length from 40 to 100 cm in a single move. And the moment the lanyard takes your weight, it shifts automatically into the locked position: you set your distance from the anchor, you sit back on it, the length stays where you put it. It weighs 240 g and comes ready to climb: Beal ships the Expresso Fit with its BELAY CLIP BIMATIC carabiner. What it's built for — and what it isn't Beal describes three uses. Single-pitch sport, to clip in comfortably at the anchor. Multi-pitch, to set up your rappels and anchor yourself at belay stations. Glacier travel and ski mountaineering, for crevasse rescue and clipping in at anchors. Alpine climbing is part of the picture too. The standard itself covers mountaineering, climbing and caving. This is not a via ferrata lanyard. The Beal manual rules out three uses outright: via ferrata, high ropes courses (adventure parks) and work at height. Those call for equipment built and certified for the job. If that's what you're shopping for, this isn't the product. Attaching it to the harness, and certification The Expresso Fit goes on the belay loop of your harness with a girth hitch. That's the only setup there is: the manual says not to tie any other knot on this lanyard. The product is certified to EN 17520:2021 — personal belay lanyard for mountaineering, climbing and caving — and complies with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment. The EU type examination was carried out by APAVE (notified body no. 0082), production control by SGS Fimko Oy (no. 0598). Why choose the Beal Expresso Fit lanyard?
