Protect the CHA CFM-34 HD base where the Spike Mount cannot. The CHA 34HD COLLAR is the black-anodized load-distribution collar required whenever a CHA CFM-34 HD mast is installed on a CHA SPIKE MOUNT.The Spike Mount's top bearing surface is narrower than the stainless-steel shoulder at the bottom of the CFM-34 HD. Without the collar, the mast's weight and side load can be concentrated through the 3/8-24 stud, creating leverage that can bend the stud. The collar bridges that mechanical mismatch so the mast base is supported at its shoulder instead of asking the threaded stud to carry the bending load.When the collar is mandatory CHA CFM-34 HD + CHA SPIKE MOUNT: the CHA 34HD COLLAR is mandatory. CHA CFM-34 HD + CHA SURVEYOR-A: the collar is not required because the SURVEYOR-A bearing surface supports the mast's stainless-steel base shoulder directly. CHA CFM-34 HD + CHA PORTA-MOUNT: use the complete CHA 34HD REDUCER KIT. This collar does not replace that kit. Why it mattersA shared 3/8-24 thread is only the attachment point; it is not sufficient structural support for this mast. The collar transfers the load to the wider shoulder at the base of the CFM-34 HD, reducing the lever effect at the stud. The damage photographs on this page show the type of bending that can result when the collar is omitted.Installation check Confirm that the support is a CHA SPIKE MOUNT and the mast is a CHA CFM-34 HD. Place the CHA 34HD COLLAR at the mast-to-mount interface so the CFM-34 HD base shoulder is fully supported. Confirm that the collar is seated squarely before extending or loading the mast. Inspect the 3/8-24 stud before every deployment. Do not use a bent, cracked, loose, cross-threaded, or otherwise damaged stud.
