Vintage Jadeite Double Circle Pendant, Fu Fortune Charm, 14K
A vintage jadeite double circle pendant from circa the 1970s. A pale green outer ring, 56mm in diameter and 7mm deep, encloses a smaller ring of luminous white jadeite, 31mm in diameter and 6mm deep. The inner ring carries a soft band of natural russet-orange along its lower edge, the “fei” coloring valued in jadeite. The jadeite is natural, with translucency ranging from medium to excellent, and was tested with no indication of treatment. Both rings are mounted in 14k yellow gold, with the inner ring hanging from a hinged fitting and a gold charm in a flowing, calligraphic script hanging from the inner ring, so each element moves freely. The character appears to be fú (福) symbol variation, meaning good fortune, blessing and happiness, one of the most beloved characters in Chinese tradition. In Chinese cosmology, heaven is round, and the unbroken circle stands for eternity, completeness and harmony. Jade rings have long been worn for protection and good fortune, and a circle within a circle is often read as layered protection and blessing, though interpretations vary. The pendant weighs 32 grams in total. No chain is included.
