Calling any wine Western Australia’s best Shiraz is a bold claim, but Battles Granitis Shiraz has earned its place in the conversation. The Battles Granitis 2024 release received 97 Points and Gold from Jane Faulkner for Halliday Wine Companion, who praised its beauty, elegance, perfume and composure. It comes from the dry-grown Christos Vineyard in Chittering Valley, where vines more than 20 years old grow over granite and clay. Just 90 dozen cases were produced, making this one of the rarest and most distinctive Shiraz releases in Western Australia. Deep blackberry, blood plum and red cherry meet violets, dried herbs, gentle spice and savoury charcuterie. The palate has tremendous concentration, but it remains controlled and aromatic, with fine tannins carrying the fruit through a long, savoury finish. Why You Will Love It 97 Points and Gold: An exceptional Halliday Wine Companion rating from reviewer Jane Faulkner. Arguably one of WA’s finest Shiraz wines: A rare combination of concentration, perfume, elegance and detailed site expression. Extremely limited production: Only 90 dozen cases were made. A distinctive granite vineyard: The wine comes from dry-grown vines planted over granite and clay in Chittering Valley. Beautifully aromatic: Violets, purple flowers and lifted red fruits sit above blackberry, plum, spice and savoury complexity. Warm-vintage generosity: The dry and exceptionally warm 2024 season produced deep colour, concentrated fruit and ripe tannins.
