Dolomite Wolf by Melvin Sandoval

A muted pink, mauve, brown and burnt sienna veined Mexican quarried dolomite wolf carved by the abstract carver with its nose sniffing the ground. Melvin added a simple offering bundle to the top of the carving with sinew featuring melon shell heishi surrounding two coral beads with a larger turquoise bead placed at the center. For the Zuni, the wolf represents loyalty, family devotion, and the strength of the community. Because wolves mate for life and hunt together in packs, the Zuni see them as ultimate symbols of lifelong partnership, cooperation, and group survival.
