Hunting Word

Opening day starts in the dark. Boots crunch over frost on the walk in, breath hangs in the cold air, and then it's a long, quiet wait in the stand while the woods slowly wake up around you. This Hunting Word is for everyone who lives for that wait, with three starburst bullet holes punched through its tall block letters like a well-used target. Every letter is cut by hand, then given a rust patina swept with streaks of hunter green, so the color shifts the way autumn timber does from one letter to the next. Every finish turns out a little different. Hang it with small nails, double-sided tape, velcro, or magnets. Cabin wall decor at home in a hunting shack, a timber-beamed lodge, a mudroom lined with blaze orange, a gear room beside the safe, or the den where the season's stories get retold. A gift for a first-season hunter, a longtime deer camp regular, or the friend whose truck is packed the night before.
