In 1894, Mucha became an instant celebrity with his poster for "Gismonda." This work, "The Zodiac," is an important piece that paved the way for his subsequent commercial success. It was originally designed in 1896 for a calendar by the printing company Champenois, but Léon Deschamps, editor of the art magazine La Plume, was so captivated by its appeal that he bought the rights and published it as the La Plume calendar, which quickly became popular. Furthermore, the calendar portion was removed and a new angel design was added, creating this decorative panel version. Rich in symbolism, graceful curves, and dazzling decorativeness, this is one of Mucha's masterpieces that crystallizes his style, and is an essential piece when talking about Art Nouveau art. This is an original antique print produced at that time.
